Member of the Month:
Rob Lopresti

Rob Lopresti is the Government Documents Coordinator at Western Washington University. Besides government documents, Rob keeps pretty busy with his duties at Huxley College of Environmental Studies, management of the maps collection at WWU, and serving as library liaison to the faculty at the Canadian-American Studies department on campus. Rob is also a mystery writer. The Short Fiction Mystery Society awarded Rob the 2014 Derringer Award for Best Short Story for "The Present" (Strand Magazine, February - May 2013). Cassandra Hartnett

Cass Hartnett is the United States Government Documents Librarian at the University of Washington Libraries. Cass is originally from Plattsburgh, New York. Cass got her degree in Library Science at the University of Michigan School of Information in Ann Arbor. She then moved to the Puget Sound area in 1996 and made her home in Tacoma. Cass' expertise in librarianship include electronic government, reference, and gender studies. She also teaches the government documents class as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington's Information School. Cass is very active with the American Libraries Association's (ALA) Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) having served as Chair, Nominating Committee (2012 - 2014); Immediate Past Chair (2010); Chair, Schedule Committee (2010); Chair, GODORT (2008-2009); Assistant Chair/Chair-Elect (2007-2008). In Spring 2011, Cass co-authored "Fundamentals of Government Information: Mining, Finding, Evaluating, and Using Government Resources" with Eric J. Forte and Andrea L. Sevetson.


Staffer of the Month:
Carlos A. Diaz

Carlos A. Diaz works at Central Washington University's Government Publications, Maps, and Microforms department as its U.S. Documents and Maps Specialist. Carlos is originally from Honduras but moved to Tupelo, Mississippi (birthplace of Elvis Presley) when he was 14 years old. He got his B.A. in American History from Louisiana State University (LSU). It was at LSU where he began his library career first as a work-study student at the Instructional Materials Center (teachers' collection) and later on, in the same department as a Library Assistant. Carlos later moved from Instructional Materials Center to Reference where he came in contact with government documents for the very first time. After LSU, Carlos moved back home to Mississippi to work at the government documents regional depository at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). He then moved to Olympia, Washington to become the Head of Government Documents/Maps at The Evergreen State College where he stayed for 12.5 years. Carlos loves history and loves watching and doing anything related to that topic such as genealogy, visiting historical places, and going to museums and art galleries. He grew up as part of the TV generation that watched a lot of the programs from the 70s and 80s and loves to watch old movies. Carlos is also an avid fan of science fiction especially Star Trek and anything else related to the last frontier.
